"Job Applicants Demand Age Limit Increase to 35, Shahbagh Protesters Symbolically Tear Certificates"

The job applicants have blocked Shahbagh demanding three stages of applications, including raising the age limit to 35 for government jobs. During this time, the protesters symbolically tore apart their certificates as a form of protest.

On Saturday (June 10), a gathering was organized at Shahbagh in the capital where 30 upper-level certificates were symbolically torn by students. Students from various educational institutions participated in the gathering. Shariful Hasan Shubho, the convener of the Central Committee of the Coordinating Council for applicants aged 35 in job applications, chaired the gathering.

The applicants demand that the age limit for job applications should be increased from 30 to 35 years within a short period. They also express their demand to reduce the application fee for government jobs to Tk. 200 for the first class, Tk. 150 for the second class, Tk. 100 for the third class, and Tk. 50 for the fourth class. Additionally, they demand the establishment of the "Bangabandhu Complex" (consisting of the Bangabandhu Chair and a mural) in the Faculty of Law at Dhaka University in honor of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The organizers stated that in the past, students and job applicants have staged various movements and protests at different times to raise the age limit for entry into jobs to 35, along with other demands. These movements, protests, and assurances have faced various obstacles, including police repression. Incidents like these have occurred in various locations across the capital during student protests. Allegations of attacks during these movements have been made against student organizations and miscreants supported by the ruling party, apart from law enforcement agencies.
